General & Preventive Dental Care for Garland Families

Our top priority at Grin Dental is keeping our patients’ smiles healthy. That begins with a solid foundation in general and preventive dental care in our Garland, TX dental office and at home. We work with patients to establish an ongoing care routine with the goal of helping them keep their natural smile for a lifetime. We recommend patients visit us at least two times each year for checkups and cleanings, and we offer a wide array of preventive services to give them a leg up over common oral health issues. Contact our team to schedule an appointment. We are conveniently located for patients from Wylie, Sachse, Murphy, and other nearby communities.

Checkups & Cleanings

Regular preventive dental checkups and professional teeth cleanings are the backbone of every ongoing oral health plan for patients. In order to meet the standards of care set forth by the American Dental Association, we encourage our patients to visit our office at least two times each year to prevent common issues and diagnose and treat others in the earliest stages.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants allow our team to virtually seal out the harmful bacteria, plaque, and tartar. The treatment is quick and completely painless. Dr. Nisha John is able to apply sealants as part of any regular dental checkup. The process is simple. Following your professional teeth cleaning, we paint the liquid sealant onto the surfaces of teeth where it will seep into even the tiniest pits and grooves on teeth. Once the sealant is in place, we use a curing light to harden it onto the surface of teeth. The result is a completely clear protective coating that prevents bacteria, plaque, and tartar from weakening or decaying teeth for several years with proper care.

Oral Cancer Screening

On average, oral cancer claims one life every hour. Researchers recommend oral cancer screenings as part of preventive care. Their findings revealed that early diagnosis is the best way to decrease the number of deaths because the disease is more treatable when caught early. Many of our patients believe if they don’t use tobacco they’re not at risk. Unfortunately, tobacco use is only one of the many high risk behaviors associated with oral cancer, and more than 25% of those diagnosed each year do not engage in any of these behaviors. For these reasons, we include screenings for oral cancer as an essential component of every dental checkup.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is an important building block for healthy teeth. As infants and young children, primary and adult teeth depend on ingested fluoride (usually from water) for strong, healthy development. However, once teeth have erupted from the gums, topical fluoride is the best way to fortify and strengthen the enamel to prevent decay and damage. Regular brushing with fluoridated toothpaste or use of fluoridated mouthwashes is a great way to strengthen teeth, but for patients who are more prone to decay or weakened enamel, professional fluoride treatments may be necessary. We can quickly apply topical fluoride as part of any dental checkup. We simply polish on a professional-grade dose of fluoride before patients leave the office. Additionally, we may provide prescription strength fluoride toothpastes and mouthwashes to help patients between visits.

Gum Disease Treatment

Gum disease is extremely prevalent throughout the US effecting more than 50% of adults over 30. In the early stages, treatment can be as simple as more frequent teeth cleanings and improved at home care. When gum disease progresses to the advanced stage, more complex treatments are necessary. We begin with the removal of plaque, tartar, and damaged tissue. Then root planing, the smoothing of tooth roots to prevent future buildup. Then, we recommend topical antibiotics to reduce the amount of plaque producing bacteria as the area heals. In most cases, patients still need to visit us at least three times each year for cleanings.

Emergency Dentistry

When you experience a dental emergency, contact our office right away. Grin Dental is always here to help whenever our patients need is. During most dental emergencies, we’re able to offer same day treatment to restore patients’ smiles right away. However, if we’re unable to treat you the day you call, we’ll provide care tips and pain management techniques over the phone to ensure your smile and overall health are safe until your appointment. If we feel that your dental damage may put your life at risk or that we may need to partner with physicians to offer the best care, we’ll recommend you visit the nearest emergency room. Some of the most common emergencies we treat include lost teeth or restorations, chipped or broken teeth or restorations, severe toothache indicating root canal infection, and damaged partial or full dentures.
